Momiji Onsen, appearance

We visited "Momiji Onsen" in Yunoura, Fukiagé-cho, Hioki. The building was built approx. 22 years ago, and is relatively new.

Momiji Onsen, reception

The owner Masue and her daughters welcomed us at the reception.

Momiji Onsen, Bath

The bath is filled with the sulphur water with light-green colour which is very clear and transparent. The combination of the green water and orange tiles is rustic but charming. The touch of the water is really smooth, some bathers say "This is one of the best water in Kagoshima."

Momiji Onsen, faucet

The water continuously flows out of the faucet, and is not recycled. They mixed water from two different sources to adjust the temperature, one is warm private water source and the other is hot shared water source (shared within the town).

Momiji Onsen, bather

He is a frequent bather Masanori. He comes to Momiji Onsen everyday since he was recommended this onsen from his friend. He now loves the water and is a member of the frequent bather program.

Momiji Onsen, family

They are the owner's family. As this onsen has over 100 years of history, bathing here is not just for relaxing but also for communicating with neighbors, which facilitate the social community bond. We wish such culture be inherited to the next generation.

Momiji Onsen, Saigo

Fukiagé Onsen was loved by Takamori Saigo. We guess he might be attracted by the people here as well as onsens.
