Kimiyoshi Onsen
We visited "Kimiyoshi Onsen" in Akune city. The building, which was built 50 years ago, is located on the back of the owner's orthopedic clinic. The onsen opened about 120 years ago.
At the traditional-design reception, Ms. Fujiko welcomed us with a smile.
The facilities are not new; however they are well maintained and clean. The locker cannot be locked with a key, but you can see the locker from the bath room through transparent glass doors.
The bath room is designed with blue and red tiles, and there are two baths filled with really unusual sodium chloride and radioactive water. The amount of dissolved substances per 1kg water is 33,610mg, which is extremely large even among Japanese onsens. The right bath contains hot water and the other (darker one) contains warm water. The temperature of the hot water is approx. 43.6°C (110.5°F) around the faucet. The manager says the recommended season is winter. Bathing in this onsen really warms you up in a cold day.
Although the amount of water discharged from the spring has decreased compared to the old days, it is still abundant.
His name is Michiharu, he has been using this onsen since 1939 for more than 65 years. He says this onsen has the best water quality around here, and the water is good for stomach diseases and neuralgia.
This is the relaxation room. You can lie down and take a rest here after bathing.
The owner is a director of the orthopedic clinic next to the onsen house.
