We visited “Yuya Ebisu” in Myoban, Beppu, Oita. To get to Yuya Ebisu, go along Route 500 and pass through Jigoku Bozu. It is located up on the hill. This onsen is operated by Ryokan “Ebisuya” which is situated side by side.

The staff Hitomi and Mitsuko welcomed us at the reception.

The dressing room is big and clean. You can use a locker to keep your valuables while bathing.

The open-air bath is very big and open. On a sunny day, it is breezy and cozy. The white onsen water is of sulphur spring, and the fragrance of rich sulphur is so nice. Some bathers soak a towel in this water and bring back to their home to enjoy the fragrance at home. Also, Yuya Ebisu has another hot spring source which provides simple thermal spring. The staff told us that taking a simple thermal bath after sulphur bath can make the skin smooth. In this room, which is situated in the ground floor, there is a steam bath as well.

He is Isamu who is a member of Beppu Hatto Onsendo. To be a “master” of Beppu Hatto Onsendo, you need to take a bath in 88 places in Beppu, and he has completed bathing in those 88 places 88 times only in 5 and half years. So, he is called as a master of masters.

This is an indoor bath in the second floor where the entire room is made by stones. The staff said the theme of this room is “relaxing cave”. Men’s bath and Women’s bath switch between the open-air and indoor bath. Every even day, the open-air bath is for men, and the indoor bath is for women. Every odd day, the other way round.

Yuya Ebisu offers the private/family bath service as well. They have 5 rooms dedicated to the private usage. The same white onsen water is used in them.

Maya is the fourth-generation owner. The ryokan Ebisuya located side by side has been running 143 years and is the oldest ryokan in the Myoban area. The name derives from one of Seven Lucky Gods “Ebisu-sama”, the first owner named as Ebisuya so that all the guests can stay happily and leave the ryokan with smile and happiness. As Ebisuya is situated in the mountain area in Beppu, guests can feel the seasonal differences such as green leaves, autumn leaves, and white snow.

This is a relax room designed with the motif of the deep sea where the guests can relax themselves in a silent room like in the deep sea. The owner said the entire rooms are always maintained clean so that women guests can relax deeply.
