With the manager Sayaka Katsuraghi in the lobby

We visited Kannawa Yunoka in Miyuki, Beppu, Oita. It is situated in the Kannawa district where hot spring steam is rising from the ground.

The executive director Tsuyoshi welcomed us at the reception.

The dressing room is simple and clean.

The bathroom is decorated with the wooden wall and the tub is made by stones. Although the original hot spring water is really hot in Beppu, this bath is filled with approx. 41°C|106°F water which is moderate for soaking. The water contains a rich amount of silicic acid and thus it has strong moisturizing effect. The touch is really soft, and bating at this bath is so soothing.

Hot water (60°C|140°F) always flow out of the faucet. The veteran staff listens to the gurgling sound and adjusts the angle of this faucet to control the bath temperature. That’s an amazing expert skill!

Yasushi is a member of Beppu Hatto Onsendo who often comes to Beppu although he lives in Ibaraki in Kanto. When he comes to Beppu, he likes to visit onsens which he loves or he has not ever been to. He is really an onsen lover.

There is an open-air bath as well. Kannawa Yunoka has two shared bathrooms, one with this open-air bath and the other without it. The two rooms switch between Men’s bath and Women’s bath daily.

Also, Kannawa Yunoka offers the private/family bath service. This is a “big pot” bath. The previous owner bought this big pot and it had not been used in any way, so the current owner decided to use it as a bathtub.

This is another private/family bath called “retro bath”. The colour combination of the tiles is nostalgic. This room is wide enough to share within the family members.

The manager Sayaka is a friendly person and loves onsen. She has a master prize of Beppu Hatto Onsendo and has completed Kyushu 88 Onsens Stamp Rally as well. As an onsen fan, she has been improving any single details, including amenity goods, to provide the guests with the best onsen experience not only for onsen fans but also first time visitors. She hopes every guest will enjoy Kannawa Yunoka.

Like other hot springs in the Kannawa district, there is a steam kitchen in Kannawa Yunoka. You can use this kitchen to steam something. The staff recommended us to cook steamed bread, you can buy the cooking set in the front desk. If you visit Kannawa Yunoka, make sure to enjoy steam cooking as well as the onsen experience!
