Kirishima Jingu Onsen "Kokumin Syukusya Miyamaso"
We visited Kirishimajingu Onsen "Kokumin Syukusya Miyamaso" in Kirishimataguchi, Kirishima. The building was built in 1960 and once closed in 2014. However, it reopened as Miyamaso in April of 2016 with the new owner.
Suzuko (the name of the woman in the picture) kindly welcomed us at the reception, she is the wife of the executive chef of Miyamaso.
The dressing room is equipped with lockers to keep your valuables.
When you get into the bathroom, you will first notice the white water contained in the tub. Also, you will be surprised with a large amount of deposited minerals on the surface of the water. The manager says some frequent visitors rub their bodies with the deposited minerals. That should be an unusual way, we have never heard of that.
Cold water is added to adjust the temperature. Unlike other bathhouses in this area, Miyamaso has its own hot spring source and the water is pumped from the source to the bathtub. You can enjoy the unique water in Miyamaso.
The open-air bath is filled with the same cloudy white water. There is also a cold bath, and many bathers take the hot bath and cold bath one after the other. Soaking in the open-air bath surrounded by fresh green leaves of Kirisima would de-stress and refresh you.
After Miyamaso reopened in April of 2016, some previous customers have come back, saying that they went to other onsens but they could not forget Miyamaso. The manager says all the staff are now putting their effort in serving delicious food using local ingredients. If you visit Kirishima, enjoying good food, good onsen, and good nature in Miyamaso would be a good option.
