Akishigeyu
We visited “Akishigeyu” in Ura, Ebino, Miyazaki. It is located at the middle of a field.
The owner Shigeko kindly welcomed us at the reception.
This is the lounge. Some visitors have lunch or take a nap after bathing. On the day we visited, some local elderly ladies were chatting while having a bento lunch together.
The dressing room is old but is well maintained. Also, you can use a locker to keep your valuables safe while bathing.
Once you open the bathroom door, you will soon notice a bath filled with beautiful yellow coloured water with the fragrance of moor hot springs. Gold sun reflection of the water surface is really beautiful. Also, when you soak in the bath, you will be surprised with the silky touch of the water. It is definitely exceptional.
This is the faucet. Fresh moor spring are flowing out. According to Shigeko, taking this bath can warm up your body thoroughly in winter. You won’t feel a chill.
Shinichiro (left) and Shinya (right) both work for the Ebino public office and frequently come to Akishigeyu. They sometimes help Shigeko maintain the garden or facilities.
There are barrel-like open-air baths outside.
This is the recommended posture for soaking in the open-air bath. A large amount of water overflows out of the bathtub when you get in the bath, that gives you a pleasant sensation.
You can use a hat when taking an open-air bath if the sunlight is strong. This is the most unique service we have ever seen. Anyway, this is a great hospitality!
Shigeko says the hot spring source was accidentally found when her husband performed a geological research. At first, they used it only for private bath; however, they opened Akishgeyu in 1998 because their friends highly reputed the quality of the hot spring. According to her, the recommended way to enjoy Akishigeyu is taking a bath first, then having lunch in the lounge, and finally taking a bath again. She says that is quite refreshing.
Akishigeyu is surrounded by the nature, and you can have a relaxing time. After taking a bath, we recommend you to take time to relax your body and mind.
